Bon Vivant?

When you hear words like luxurious, sophisticated, and refined taste, what comes to mind? Is it flying first class, wearing expensive clothing brands, having a certain amount of money, dining at expensive restaurants? Though that could be the meaning for someone, they have a different meaning to me.

I chose the word Bon Vivant to be in the title of my website because it translates to one fond of good living or one who lives well. And to me, living well doesn’t have a price tag or brand name. It’s waking up to birds chirping in the morning. Listening to the waves crash at the beach. Being able to go outside and breathe in clean air. Eating fresh grown produce and sustainably sourced meats. Supporting small businesses and giving back to my community in a positive way. Bon Vivant, is about living a life that is full of all Earth’s bounties and focusing on doing good to better yourself, the people around you, and the planet.

In honor of Earth Day, I want everyone to celebrate what has been provided to us free of charge. But also keep in mind your state of privilege compared to people in other parts of the world, or even in your own community. Not everyone has access to clean water or clean air. Or can relax on a non polluted beach, or afford clothes that aren’t made of plastic and buy fresh produce and meat.

We must take steps to heal and protect the Earth we live on. Not just for us, but for all of humanity and other living creatures who share this planet with us.

I hope everyone had a chance to go outside and appreciate what we have today. Enjoy the true luxuries provided to us for free. And continue to protect this blue ball we call Earth.
