California Dream
I like my burgers like I like my men, not too fancy, fresh, and seasoned. And just 35 minutes south from Lompoc, you can get a burger that tastes like a California dream. Jalama Beach has so much to offer, but when it comes to food, the burger is the hottest item on the menu. It doesn’t feel pretentious like most burgers these days. It's big enough to fill you up, but not obnoxiously tall to where you can’t fit it in your mouth. Everything is perfectly layered inside the bun so nothing is slipping out the back when you take your first bite. But messy enough that one napkin won’t suffice.
Though it is located on a camp ground, you can pay for an hour pass and just go for the food. The famous burger is created inside a small shack with beverages, snacks, and souvenirs. The menu consists of breakfast, lunch and dinner. But if it's your first time, getting the damn burger. The lean ground beef is served on a sesame bun with the Jalama secret sauce, shredded lettuce, red onion, tomato and pickle chips. Your options for add-on toppings are limited but inexpensive. And the fries are thin, crispy and perfectly salted. If you are one that enjoys living life to the fullest, I would recommend getting the onion rings AND the fries on the side. There are tables inside and outside, though if you're outside, keep both hands on your burger because a seagull will come for it if left unattended.
The Jalama burger is a classic like no other. And nothing compares to the serene feeling you get while taking your first bite. With the sound of waves crashing in the background, the smell of the ocean breeze and feeling the sun on your skin. It’s truly the California dream.
